XMTP May 2025 Community Update

We're thrilled to announce XMTP messaging is back and better than ever in Coinbase Wallet as part of the app's new push into social. Secure-messaging, powered by XMTP is a primary experience in the app (currently in beta), unlocking a new surface area for users and developers, bringing crypto and AI directly into secure group chats and DMs.

This allows for entirely new use-cases never before possible in traditional messaging, including:

AI-powered trading assistants, helping users execute informed trades instantly within secure DMs & group-chat.
On-demand crypto mini-apps, enabling seamless interaction with DeFi protocols and NFT marketplaces without leaving your conversations.
Casual gaming and prediction markets, letting a group of friends seamlessly wager, play, and compete directly within secure chats, backed by smart contract functionality.
Real-time portfolio management, allowing friends or investment groups to collaboratively manage crypto assets directly in group chats.
Automated customer support agents, providing secure, instant, and personalized assistance powered by AI that can understand and assist based on the contents of your wallet.

Existing agents, like BankrBot, can extend their service to Coinbase Wallet, simply by adopting XMTP as a channel. This provides developers with the incentive of more distribution opportunities through the XMTP network, while not having to build the security requirements that XMTP provides.

We're currently working with over 10 of the best of the agent and mini-app teams in web3 and excited for users to experience the power of agents in the new Coinbase Wallet.

XMTP added as a Base Batches dedicated track

Given the new push into social by Coinbase Wallet, Base had added XMTP to Base Batches, Base's global program for builders creating the next wave of onchain apps.

To kick this off, we're teaming up with Base for a 3-week Buildathon. The Buildathon, ending on June 6th, is a great chance for developers to innovate and redefine what messaging can be when combining AI + crypto + mini-apps into a highly-secure chat experience, powered by XMTP.
